During one of the breaks, I spoke with Robert Rosenberg of the Naval Research Lab. He works in the Visualization Lab of NRL. This facility exists to help scientists create visualizations of their data. They have a variety of workstations and a projection display room (like a Cave™ but not from that vendor). Most of the work is done using the AVS visualization system software. They generally batch render using AVS, etc and project it in the projection system. They are not using stereoscopic viewing, as they have not seen a good reason for it. They are just learning what works for scientists. They are beginning work with a Cognitive Psychologist to conduct studies of the usability and ways to improve the visualizations.
